Abstract:
Objective To screen pepper varieties suitable for protected extended-autumn cultivation in Changji, Xinjiang, which have high quality, high yield, and strong disease resistance.
Method In this experiment, 16 new pepper varieties were introduced and grown under protected extended-autumn cultivation. The main cultivated variety 'Xibeilüxuanfeng' was used as the control for a comparative trial. Plant agronomic traits of each variety were measured, and disease indicators were investigated.
Result Five pepper varieties—'Xibeilü 2020', 'Zhongyanluo 1', 'Huazhixiuchunluo', 'Zhongyanluo 8', and 'Daguoyulongwang' — were selected from the 16 introduced varieties as suitable for cultivation. All five varieties showed significantly higher yield than the control, exhibited dark green fruit color, and demonstrated good disease resistance with disease index below 3 for virus disease and other diseases.
Conclusion The five new pepper varieties selected in this experiment showed excellent overall performance and are recommended for protected extended-autumn cultivation and extension in the Changji region.
